Microalgae produce a variety of photosynthetic pigments that include chlorophyll, carotenoids, xanthophylls etc. These compounds are used in different industries like pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetics. Among these compounds, carotenoids have been    proposed as health promoters due to their antioxidant and coloring properties. Due to the harmful effects of synthetic color, the use of microalgae as an alternative natural source becomes an attractive option.
